Education & Training

The residents of the UC San Francisco – East Bay Program rotate through clinical rotations at the Alameda Health System (Highland Hospital), Kaiser Permanente (Oakland, Walnut Creek), San Francisco VA Medical Center (San Francisco, CA), UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital (Oakland), and the UCSF Medical Center (San Francisco).

Clinical rotations through the various sites provide our residents with exposure to a wide variety of patients with diverse clinical problems, surgical faculty, and practice environments.  Traditionally, at the completion of training, the residents have gained extensive experiences in all of the primary components of general surgery.  Over the past several years, each of our graduates have performed more than 800 major cases and have exceeded the requirements in all of the defined category outlined by the American Board of Surgery.
