General Surgery

Three general surgery services provide surgical care to the patients at Alameda Health System (AHS), Highland Hospital. The Acute and Elective services are each headed by a team of attending general surgeons with a complement of senior and junior residents. Areas of expertise include general, gastrointestinal surgery, surgery of the breast and endocrine organs, oncologic surgery, surgical ultrasound applications and minimally invasive/laparoscopic procedures. In addition, a wide variety of surgical emergencies are evaluated and treated through the busy Emergency Department at AHS Highland Hospital. Each service alternates between busy elective operative schedules and coverage of the general surgical outpatient clinics.

Kaiser Oakland

Five general surgery services provide surgical care to patients at Kaiser Oakland, covering the hepatobiliary service, the thoracic service, the colorectal service, the breast service and the acute care surgery service.  As the tertiary referral center for Northern California, this educational site provides exposure to a wide variety of surgical pathology.
